*John Ridley’s new detective drama “Presence” has received a pilot order from ABC.

The show centers on Presence Foster, a former Army veteran who finds herself interacting with a widely divergent, and highly colorful cross-section of Los Angeles as she unintentionally begins a career as an unlicensed Private Investigator.

According to Deadline.com, producers are looking for a woman of color for the lead: “The project had been on a fast track, with preliminary work done on identifying possible candidates for the young female lead who will likely be Latina or Black.”

Like his critically-acclaimed anthology drama “American Crime,” which returns for a second season on Jan. 6, Ridley wrote and will direct and executive produce the pilot for “Presence” through his International Famous Players Radio Picture Corporation.

The project is being set up at ABC Studios, where Ridley has inked an overall deal.

Ridley, the Oscar winning writer of “12 Years a Slave,” has also been developing a comic book-inspired series for Marvel Studios and ABC.
