Attention Haters: Taye Diggs’ Son is Neither Black or White

taye diggs*Taye Diggs may catch flak for not wanting his son to be identified as black, but don’t expect the actor to back down from his view anytime soon.

TMZ cites an interview did with The Grio in which he mentioned that he doesn’t want his son to disrespect his mother, Idina Menzel‘s heritage by identifying himself as just black. As a result, the “Murder in the First” entertainer has been trending on social media with Black Twitter users blasting him for feeling that way, saying he has “self hate issues” and “Somebody tell Taye Diggs Black man + white lady = black baby, that’s just how it is, bro.”

Apparently, the criticism hasn’t moved Diggs enough to regret what he said. Instead, he addressed his critics by standing by his comments and giving folks something to chew on making them think about a situation where his son wants to identify himself as white.

All the black or white ruckus with Diggs and his son stems from Diggs’ new children’s book, “Mixed Me.”

Taking it further, Diggs brought President Barack Obama into the conversation by stating that he would call the commander-in-chief the first “mixed” president, rather than the first “black” president.”

“As African-Americans we were so quick to say okay he’s black he’s black, and then there were the white people who were afraid to say he was biracial because who knows,” Diggs said. “Everybody refers to him as the first black president, I’m not saying it’s wrong, I’m just saying that it’s interesting. It would be great if it didn’t matter and that people could call him mixed. We’re still choosing to make that decision, and that’s when I think you get into some dangerous waters.”
