*The hippest trip in America, the 2015 Soul Train Awards jumped off last night (11-06-15) in Las Vegas.

Erykah Badu is getting kudos for her job of hosting the star-studded annual awards show with humor, soul and fun.

Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds with the prestigious Legend Award. Epic Records CEO, L.A. Reid was on hand to help honor his longtime friend. By the way, Babyface even curated his own tribute by bringing out Tevin Campbell, Brandy (who performed “Sitting In My Room”), Fantasia, Boyz II Men and, finally, Bobby Brown.

And then there was Jill Scott who just showed off with her show-stopping performance. Jilly from Philly was honored with the Lady of Soul Award and delivered a heartwarming acceptance speech that touched the audience.

Some of the evening’s best performances include Jeremih performing “Planes,” Tyrese singing his cautionary ballad “Shame” and a nostalgic performance from ’80s funk band Cameo. In addition, R. Kelly brought his “Backyard Party” to the Soul Train Awards stage as well.

But by all accounts, Madame Badu aka FatBellyBella was the star of the night and folks folks are still talking about. Like said at the top, the singer/actress did an excellent job with keeping the show upbeat and fun. Further, folks who were there, say Badu also brought some fun surprises to the festivities as well.

According to one eyewitness, there was a “Soul Cypher” — akin to the BET Hip-Hop Awards’ The Cypher Series — featuring Chrisette Michele, K-Ci, Eddie Levert, Lalah Hathaway and Badu on the turntables. Now that sounds exciting.

And, would you believe that after 20 years Badu reunited with the mysterious “Tyrone” live onstage. Hmm, can’t wait to see that.

Also among the big winners of the night: Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson. No surprise there. They nabbed Song of the Year for their chart-topping hit, “Uptown Funk.”

The 2015 Soul Train Music Awards will premiere on Nov. 29 at 8 p.m. ET on Centric.
