*Kel Mitchell was soaring high in the late 90s as the star of Nickelodeon’s “All That” and “Kenan & Kel,” not to mention the spin-off film “Good Burger.”

But once the lights faded, drug addiction set in – sending the young actor into a downward spiral.

“As a young actor there are ups and downs,” he told People. “And when you get to that down part, there are times you feel like no on can relate to you. When Britney Spears shaved her head, I understood that.”

In 2004, when his marriage to Tyisha Hampton ended after six years, Mitchell, 37, suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts and used drugs.

“After my divorce I just felt like life was not working out,” said Mitchell.

But soon after, Mitchell’s began climbing out of his personal abyss by becoming a stage manager for a nondenominational church in Los Angeles after feeling “lost and looking for answers.”

“Before, it was just about me, but now it is more about Christ,” he shared. “That’s when things started to turn around in my life. I went through a rough time, but now I have peace.”

Today, Mitchell is re-married to designer and rapper Asia Lee. He’s also got positive relationships with his children from his first marriage: son Lyric, 16, and daughter Allure, 13.

As for his once-stalled television career, Mitchell has returned to the network that made him a household name starring in the new show “Game Shakers.”

“I enjoy living this life,” he said. “I don’t let things frustrate or worry me anymore. I don’t do that because I have peace in my heart.”
