*COMPTON, CA — Alonzo “Lonzo” Williams, the character portrayed by actor Corey Reynolds as the club owner in the blockbuster hit film “Straight Outta Compton,” has announced the publication of his memoirs “N.ot W.ithout A.lonzo” (acronym: N.W.A.)

If you have seen “Straight Outta Compton,” or heard about it, this new book will fill in the blanks of the full story on West Coast Hip-Hip as can only be told by the undisputed Godfather himself, Lonzo Williams – founder of World Class Wreckin’ Cru, one of the first West Coast rap groups to do a major tour.  Members included Dr. Dre, who Lonzo discovered when he let Dre into his club one night and he made his way up to the DJ Booth.

Lonzo, a club promoter then and now, saw something special in Dre and made him a part of World Class.  Among World Class’ hits was the classic record “Before You Turn Off the Lights.”  Other World Class members were DJ Yella, who went on with Dre to be a part of NWA (Niggaz Wit Attitudes) and Michel’le who ultimately had a solo career often produced by Dre.

Lonzo founded Kru Cut Records, whose acts included World Class, Dr. Dre, DJ Yella, and signed a 15-year-old Ice Cube at that time.  He was also the person that aspiring rap entrepreneur Eric “Eazy-E” Wright consulted about starting his own label. In fact, it was Lonzo who put Eazy and Jerry Heller together.

The ‘tell all’ book “N.ot W.ithout A.lonzo” tells the old stories about Ice Cube and Dr. Dre and how they became Hip-Hop legends whose impact parlayed into great success in other areas. It describes gripping stories that the film “Straight Outta Compton” did not include and will tell readers where Hip Hop is going just by breaking down where it’s truly been like only Lonzo can.

Lonzo Williams, known to many in the music industry as a legend himself, is best recognized for discovering new talent – most notably Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Easy E and Michel’le and was solely responsible for launching their music careers through his company Kru-Cut Records.

A native of Compton, Lonzo’s career in the entertainment industry spans over 40 years and has included roles as a DJ, club owner, record company owner, songwriter, publisher, speaker and author. Some of his proudest achievements encompass his inclusion in the Rhythm, Rap and Rage display in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is also contributor to the Shomburg Research Center of New York on the history of the city of Compton and the effect of Hip Hop on the world.

“A brilliant, well-written cultural chronicle!” – EURweb contributor Larry Buford
