*“Appropriate,” award-winning playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ razor-edged comedic drama, is now showing at the Center Theatre Group/Mark Taper Forum for it’s West Coast Premiere through November 1, 2015.
*Branden Jacobs-Jenkins flips the script by writing about race, class and culture clashes but from the opposite side of the spectrum in his new play titled “Appropriate.”
The clever playwright paints a realistic picture of a Caucasian family that is forced to deal with the complex nature of their family ties, the deep dark secrets of their dearly departed father and what lies beneath his Arkansas plantation.
“Appropriate” is hilarious, thought provoking, complicated and well worth the three acts that it takes to unfold the story as skeletons hurl from the closets of the Lafayette family and verbal daggers fly from beginning to end. A brilliant job was performed by all, with splendid scenery and special effects to boot.
“Appropriate” is directed by Eric Ting, the cast includes Robert Beitzel (“Our Town,” Barrow Street Theatre; “Women or Nothing,” Atlantic Theater), David Bishins (“The Glass House” and “Catch-22,” off-Broadway), Melora Hardin (Amazon’s “Transparent”; “Chicago,” Broadway), Grace Kaufman (“Coney Island Christmas,” Geffen; “The Last Ship,” TNT), Zarah Mahler (“Soul Doctor,” Broadway; “Stupid F**king Bird,” Boston Court), Will Tranfo (the films “Ennui” and “Bastard”), Missy Yager (“Diary of Anne Frank,” Broadway; “This is Our Youth,” off-Broadway) and newcomers Liam Blair Askew and Alexander James Rodriguez. Bishins replaces the previously announced cast member Hugo Armstrong, who had to leave the production due to a foot injury. For tickets and other info go to: www.CenterTheatreGroup.org.
