Is Raven-Symoné’s ‘Apology’ About ‘Ghetto Names’ Really An Apology?

*Well now, isn’t this interesting.

After getting reamed by social media and publicly spanked by her own father for her overtly insensitive remarks on “The View” about not hiring people with “ghetto names” (even though hers could be consider one), Raven-Symoné is backtracking on her controversial comments … kinda.

On Sunday she released the following statement posted on her Facebook page:

My comments about discrimination have spun out of control.

I’d like to begin by saying that I was not attacking a specific race, but repeating a name that was said in a viral video which has received over 2 million likes.

I have been denied many jobs because of my skin color, body size, and age. Each time I was rejected, my self esteem was negatively effected, so i empathize with those who feel victimized by what I said. We would hope that when it comes to hiring, our names, physical appearance, sexual orientation, and age would never outweigh our qualifications, but often times, they do, thats the truth and it sucks. But I should not be part of the problem, I should be part of the solution.

As an equal opportunity employer, I have never discriminated against a name….even though I said I would, it’s not true. My comment was in poor taste. My lack of empathy towards name discrimination was uncalled for. I would also like to say that on Friday my account was hacked, those are not my words.

Hmm, needless to say, some are already doubting the sincerity of Raven’s “apology,” but, at the very least, she’s on record for saying her comment “was in poor taste.”

  1. Black people are really comical hypocrites. Surely not all but most. There have been tons of sitcoms, stand up comedian and movies making fun of “ghetto names”!!! Get outta here with the BS!!!!

  2. I think the comment saying, she would not hire anybody with a ghetto name had people upset

Job performance can’t be determined by a persons name, she should have known better

  3. Raven Symone’s behavior does not surprise me!
Her apology IMO is not sincere!
If someone said “I would not hire Lesbians!” she would not give a rat’s azz about an insincere apology…

  4. It’s funny because you don’t hear Indians, Chinese or even some Africans being ‘discriminated’ because of their traditional names. Of course a name does not have a bearing on a person’s ability to perform at their job. I think Raven’s problem is that as a celebrity, she has a simplistic view of the world and says anything that comes to her mind. However, I really do think she has some issues with her identity, not only as African American but as a lesbian, IMO.

  5. Raven Symone’s, were very lucky when she was choice to be on the Cosby Show. The Bitch haven’t close her mouth yet. She’s definite don’t love the color of her skin by evidence of her Black Ass Inappropriate Behavior and Comments. HOOD RAT BITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
