Ten year-old Baltimore actor Anthony Michael Hobbs (Emmy nominated PBS’ “The Abolitionists”) recently won “Best Filmmaker Under 18” at the 2015 Ocktober Film Festival in New York for his short-film One Nation. The young actor, screenwriter, producer and director’s acceptance speech had the audience inspired, impressed, and in exuberant applause. NAACP Image Award winner Hill Harper (“CS: NY”) even mentioned him at the beginning of his acceptance speech for the Ocktober Film Festival special honor, the “Career Achievement Award.”

“I’m so inspired. The main thing I‘m so happy about, Anthony,” said the best selling author Hill Harper about Anthony Micheal’s short film winning in a category that included up to age 18. “I’m looking forward to auditioning to be in Nagging Pixie, so make sure you call me because I want to audition.”

The Ocktober Film Fest was a four day event that also included workshop/seminars on various topics, as well as actors and filmmakers on hand to give advice. Hobbs said during his acceptance speech that he only made One Nation to enter into the White House Film Festival for kids. The short film was later submitted to other film festivals and so far Anthony Michael Hobbs has won at three of seven festivals entered, and has received a special Spirit Award.

Hobbs at such a young age is also a motivational speaker, who recently spoke as a mentor at former NFL player Joel Gamble’s (Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans) Career Scholars Program for the Joel Gamble Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit group. Anthony is also an avid sports player (i.e., baseball, basketball, and soccer) winning recognition such as Relentless Player of the Game (soccer) and JR Boys Champions (basketball).

His short film One Nation has also screened at The Aurora Picture Show Extremely Young Film Festival at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston; the Alhambra Theatre Film Festival in Indiana where he won their Spirit Award; the West Chester Film Festival in West Chester, Pennsylvania; the Montclair Film Festival in New Jersey where it won Grand Prize, and the San Diego Kids International Film Festival.

Anthony Michael Hobbs’ acting credits include performances in films, such as 2013 Emmy Award nominated PBS special “The American Experience: The Abolitionist” where he played a young Frederick Douglas; starring in DreamWorks documentary “How to Train Your Dragon: Dragons and Dinosaurs” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bekKOmfsWfc); United Way‘s PSA (https://vimeo.com/54017197); Norwegian Cruise-Line’s commercial; several PBS Sprout Network mini-segments; the national classroom program called KinderRhyme – which appears in over 2600 school programs, and in a Comcast’s Xfinity segment.
