‘Empire’ Ratings Hit Series High, ‘Rosewood’ Debuts Strong

*FOX dominated the ratings thanks to the September 23 premiere of “Empire,” which returned hitting a series high.

The Lee Daniels and Danny Strong co-created drama scored a 8.7/27 among adults 18-49, with a total of 22.5 million viewers, according to the network. The numbers include live and delayed viewing as well as streaming on FOX NOW and on Hulu.

Deadline reports that the Live + 3 results for the S2 debut are up 30% in the key demo. Live+3 ratings measure live viewing plus DVR viewing up to three days later. The series is also up 28% in Live + Same Day results. The 3-days of delayed viewing result are also up 64% from the Live+3 demo rating of “Empire’s” S1 debut on January 7.

The “Empire” S1 finale on March 18 drew 21.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated freshman finale since the first season finale of “Grey’s Anatomy,” according to Nielsen. Compared to the 2-hour Season 1 finale, the “Empire” S2 debut rose 4% in the demo – setting a new record, but in total audience, the numbers were even with the S1 finale with just a 1.4% difference between the two, Deadline reports.

The series debut of Morris Chestnut’sRosewood” pulled a 2.8/10 among the demo and 8.98 million in viewership in the DVR results.

CBS was second in ratings and viewers thanks to the season premieres of “Survivor,” with 9.6 million viewers and “Big Brother” drew 6.5 million viewers.

ABC was third in ratings and fourth in viewers with 7.1 million, with a lineup of all season premieres, including “The Middle,” ”The Goldbergs,” “Modern Family,” and “Black-ish,” which, as The Wrap reports, had 7.3 million viewers.

NBC was fourth in ratings and third in viewers with 7.8 million, also airing only premieres of “The Mysteries of Laura” and “Law & Order: SVU.”
