RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan poses at a press conference to announce they have signed with Warner Bros. Records at Warner Bros. Records on October 2, 2014 in Burbank, California.

*RZA has signed up to direct “Breakout,” the upcoming action-thriller about a young photographer, and son of a prominent public figure, falsely accused of drug trafficking in Bangladesh.

The photographer’s well-to-do father enlists two old friends to help break his son out of prison so that he may uncover the truth, Variety reports.

The project re-teams Amasia Entertainment with RZA, who stars in the company’s “Mr. Right” as a hitman opposite Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick. The film made its world premiere as the closing night film at the Toronto Film Festival on September 19.

“The multi-talented RZA has mastered the art of music, acting and filmmaking,” said Amasia principals Bradley Gallo and Michael Helfant. “We are ecstatic to have him behind the camera on our next project as he brings a fresh and innovative take to this international action thriller from Rich D’Ovidio.”

Richard D’Ovidio penned  the “Breakout” script which is based on a story by Richard and Nicole D’Ovidio. Filming on “Breakout” is set to start in early 2016.

This will be RZA’s third directorial effort. He made his directorial debut with the 2012 martial arts film “The Man With the Iron Fists.” He also co-wrote and starred in “The Man With the Iron Fists 2,” but he relinquished directing duties on the sequel. His second directing gig was the hip-hop drama “Coco,” starring Common, Jill Scott and Azealia Banks. It wrapped earlier this summer, with March 16, 2016 the targeted release date.

Shadow and Act previously reported about RZA’s “One Spoon Of Chocolate” project, which he has described as “a romantic tragedy… real provocative… will incorporate consciousness, love and awareness.”

RZA is also attached to helm John Milius’ Genghis Khan biopic, as well as an action thriller titled “No Man’s Land,” and an adaptation of comic book author Grant Morrison’s latest work, “Happy!”
