Joyce Guy Documentary (‘Dancing Like Home’) to be Featured at ‘Annual Day of Black Docs’ (WATCH)

*(LOS ANGELES, CA) – ”Dancing Like Homeis one of four outstanding films that will be featured at the 9th Annual Day Of Black Docs on Saturday, October 10, 2015, American Film Institute (AFI) Mark Goodson Theater, 2021 Western Avenue, Los Angeles 90027.

Dancing Like Home,” directed by Joyce Guy is a personal documentary tracing Guy’s journey to Senegal, West Africa to pursue the meanings of the traditional dance ceremonies in Casamance.

Once there, Guy’s expectations of this culturally rich region are challenged.  The film features master dancers/teachers Malong Bayo, Marie Basse Wiles and Assane Konte; Professor Sherrill Berryman-Johnson, Howard University; Nia Love, Love/Forte A COLLECTIVE; and Ronald K. Brown, Evidence Dance Company.

The film was produced by Joyce Guy and Leslie Saltus Evans and has been screened at 12 film festivals throughout the country, including the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles.  Running time: 30:45 minutes.

Guy is an actor/ director/producer and choreographer who holds a Bachelors Degree in Drama Education from Hampton University, Virginia.  She was a Dance Program Specialist for the National Endowment for the Arts in Washington, D.C. for five years and received a Theater Fellowship from that organization.  She was featured in the Los Angeles Times as one of the “People to Watch in 92” and was awarded a grant from the LA Arts Recovery Program.

 Some of her screen credits include “Moneyball” starring Brad Pitt, “The Green Hornet,” and “The Santa Clause.”

Television roles include “How To Get Away With Murder,”  “Aquarius,” “Parenthood,” “Castle,” “2 Broke Girls,” “Enlightened,” “Brooklyn 99,” “Hart of Dixie,” “Bones,” “Days of Our Lives,” “The Closer,” “Nip/Tuck,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The West Wing,” “Sunset Beach,” “Boston Legal,” “Friends,” and “Cold Case.”

The Black Association of Documentary Filmmakers (BAD West) is a professional organization providing people of African descent working in documentary film, video or other media the opportunity to network professionally, share resources, exchange ideas and meet socially in order to enhance the development, production, promotion and exhibition of documentaries.  BAD West also advocates the recognition and professional advancement of Black documentary filmmakers.
