Fan Suing Chris Brown Over Nightclub Shooting

Chris+Brown

*Chris Brown is being sued by a fan who attended a private San Jose, Calif., concert earlier this year where a shooting broke out and five people were injured.

Paul Briley has filed a lawsuit against Brown claiming that the singer failed to provide sufficient security at the show and that he is now permanently injured as a result. The January 11 shooting at the Fiesta Nightclub resulted in a 60-day suspension of the club’s liquor license.

Briley’s complaint states that since Brown has a history of violent incidents at shows, he should have had more security that night.

San Jose police warned Fiesta ownership of the potential for violence at the show, citing an August 2014 shooting in Los Angeles at a show hosted by Brown where rap mogul Suge Knight and two others were shot, Mercury News reports.

Brown’s publicist, Nicole Perna of BWR-PR, issued this statement:

“It is a poor reflection of our society that violence is so prevalent and it is always a tragedy when someone is physically harmed. However, this is a completely frivolous lawsuit. We expect that the case will be dismissed and in future, to avoid these reoccurring meritless lawsuits directed at Chris Brown, we plan to seek damages from all parties and their lawyers.”

In related news, Brown’s career achievements and the substantial impact he has had on Music Choice fans, were recognized at Nikon at Jones Beach Theater on August 30 in Wantagh, New York, where he was presented with a commemorative plaque celebrating being named an MC Icon and top artist of all time on Music Choice On Demand.

The R&B star has revealed he owns 14 Burger King restaurants, an investment that is likely to be a quite lucrative for the 26-year-old. Brown included the fact as one of ’25 things you don’t know about me’ list published in this week’s issue of Us Weekly.
