*Tomica Wright, CEO and heir of Ruthless Records and widow of rapper and label founder, Eric “Eazy-E” Wright, talks openly with best-selling author and filmmaker Maxie Collier in a new 41 minute documentary program titled, “The Legacy Of Eazy-E.”
In this previously unreleased footage, filmed in the fall of 2002, Wright shared personal details about her struggle to maintain control of Ruthless Records after Eazy’s death. She also offers first hand recollections about Eazy-E’s life, career, and impact on the music industry.
Tomica also talks about her dreams of producing a movie about Eazy’s life, an ambition that would take another 13 years to accomplish, in the form of the hit movie “Straight Outta Compton,” which has banked over $130 million since its release last month.
The interview was filmed during production of Collier’s feature film “Paper Chasers,” an Independent Film Channel (IFC) co-produced documentary exploring hip-hop entrepreneurship across America.
The film profiles veteran and emerging artists and executives including Ludacris, Daymond John, J Prince, Fat Joe, Donnie Simpson, Sway Calloway, Chivon Dean, Chuck Brown, James Brown and many others. The movie premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, was broadcast on IFC, and is currently available on DVD and to stream on Netflix.
Collier says, “Over the years, I had many people interested in this interview and many others in our archives. Despite other opportunities that presented themselves, I was determined to wait until after the movie came out to release highlights from our memorable conversation.”
