*Lionel Richie has been named the 2016 MusiCares person of the year, the Recording Academy announced. The four-time Grammy winner will be the honoree at its annual MusiCares benefit gala, to be held Feb. 13 in Los Angeles, two days before the annual Grammy Awards. Performers at the gala will include Pharrell Williams, Luke Bryan and Lady Antebellum. More performers will be announced later.

*White Sox fans are taking issue with Eazy-E’s historically-inaccurate hat in “Straight Outta Compton.” In the opening scene set in 1986, the rapper (played by Jason Mitchell) sports the logo with “SOX” written vertically. But that look wasn’t created until 1991.  Oops. TMZ has the story and pics.

*Morgan Freeman’s step-granddaughter Edena Hines was remembered by the filmmaker who shot her final project. “She really gave everything to the film. All of her soul. She was amazing in it. She’s such a talented actress,” said Stacey Maltin, who wrote, produced and stars in “Landing Up.” Hines, 33, played Maltin’s best friend. The actress, who sometimes went as E’dena, was fatally stabbed on Sunday in front of her Upper Manhattan apartment building. Her boyfriend has been arrested on murder charges. The film “Landing Up” is due out in 2016. Read more here.

*Lester Holt continues his command of the evening news ratings war. Two months into the Brian Williams takeover, Holt’s top-rated “NBC Nightly News” has beaten ABC’s “World News Tonight” with David Muir in all eight of the weeks, according to Nielsen. Last week NBC averaged 8 million viewers to ABC’s 7.7 million, and 6.4 million for the “CBS Evening News.”
