*”Straight Outta Compton” is straight up killin’ ’em  at box offices around the country.

The R-rated story of NWA took in $24 million on Friday, which far exceeded industry estimates, and is on its way to a $55 – $60 million payday

Meanwhile, here’s what’s up with the rest of the field. “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” debuted with just $5 million on Friday, and is heading for third place with $13 million, behind Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” thriller that was second and on its way to $17 million in its third week.

The way things are looking, “Straight Outta Compton” is on track for one of the biggest August and R-rated openings ever. For Universal, it will be the studio’s sixth film to hit No. 1 this year. Earlier the company released blockbusters including “Jurassic World,” “Pitch Perfect 2” and “Furious 7.”

If you haven’t seen the film and are still on the fence, know that audiences gave “Compton” an “A” CinemaScore, in line with the high marks critics have given the film, which recounts the rise of the what was known then as “the world’s most dangerous group.”

“Straight Outta Compton” was directed by F. Gary Gray and features O’Shea Jackson Jr. playing his real-life father, Ice Cube, in his first starring role. Newcomers Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell are Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, respectively. The top notch acting is Oscar caliber.

Businesswise, Ice Cube and Dr. Dre are joined as producers by Eazy-E’s widow Tomica Woods-Wright, Matt Alvarez, Gray and Scott Bernstein. Will Packer also serves as executive producer of the film. The production budget was $29 million.
