Obama Assistant Charged with Assault For Shooting At Her Boyfriend

Barvetta-Singletary*A White House staffer is paying the price for confronting her boyfriend over him spending his time with another woman.

NBC News reports that Barvetta Singletary was arrested  on charges of first and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

According to authorities, Singletary, a Special Assistant to President Barack Obama and House Legislative Affairs Liaison, did not resist when she was taken in.

The arrest resulted after Singletary lured her boyfriend to her house for sex. After the episode, Singletary confronted the boyfriend, a US Capitol Police officer, about him seeing another woman.

As detailed in the arrest warrant, the two later went to the boyfriend’s car where Singletary reached into his bag and grabbed his phone and his .40-caliber Glock 23 service weapon. The boyfriend had been refusing to hand over his cellphone to Singletary during their argument. Singletary’s request to get the passwords for his phones was refused by the boyfriend. It was then that she said the following:

“You taught me how to use this. Don’t think I won’t use it.”

After going back and forth with her boyfriend, Singletary eventually shot at the couch he was sitting on. From there, her boyfriend called 911 after fleeing the house. NBC News notes the boyfriend saying that Singletary proceeded to clean the Glock with a towel.

As it turned out, the boyfriend escaped the house unharmed. Singletary was arrested and ultimately released from prison on Monday after posting $75,000 bond. The 37-year-old is currently on unpaid leave from her post as a White House staffer after being charged for the incident.
