*Bay Area, CA.  – Director Marcus D. Spencer (Big Spence) launched his film, “Set Me Free at the Oakland International Film Festival in April 2014.  The movie premiered to over 500 attendees in Oakland; since then the film screened across the U.S. from Washington State to Florida.  The film has won a total of (9) awards thus far. Awards were won in places such as Hollywood, Atlanta, Florida and New York, including a couple of Best Director awards for Mr. Spencer.

Marcus wrote and directed, “Set Me Free” with a particular vision in mind that he felt was worth executing.  After watching the trailer one may conclude that this film is about drugs and the obvious problems that surround the inner-city.  One will learn quickly that it’s much more than that. This film addresses the problems but also gives reasons and solutions.  Spencer wrote the film loosely based off his own life story. Growing up in Oakland, CA and surrounding areas, he faced many challenges based on gender, race and economic status. He always remembered his grandmother’s words: “Use your head for more than a hat rack.” Spencer uses his film to teach his audience that you will face obstacles in life but no matter how bad life seems, you always have options.

“Set Me Free” consists of (4) main characters with individual struggles that must all be overcome. The struggles include; learning how to trust and why it’s important, loving and allowing yourself to be loved, learning to accept yourself and more. The uniqueness of this film is that all (4) characters were aspects of Mr. Spencer at some point in his life. In the film he breaks himself up into (4) different  people.  Skipper Elekwachi, Alphonso Thompson, Alan Walker and Spencer himself all play one of the main roles in this film.

After winning several awards Spencer found himself going back and forth with many distribution companies.  He decided to start his own distribution company; Touch The Heart Production Studios. “Set Me Free” will be the first of many films to be distributed by this company.  Freedom is a state of mind. Set Me Free is available for purchase in select stores and for download on TTHP website: https://www.touchtheheartproductions.com/setmefree.htm
