*Tyrese doesn’t have the luxury of a label or publicist to handle his music promotions, so the actor/singer did what many indie artists do when they want you to buy their music – he hit the streets to connect with the people!

Tyrese posted a video of himself hawking his CD, “Black Rose,” on the subway in Brooklyn on Friday. Check it out below.

“Excuse me, everybody. My name is Tyrese. I’m a singer. I left all of the major record labels so that I can do my thing as an independent artist and I’m on the train,” he told riders. “I’m independent. I’m grass roots. I’m in these streets. I’m a street performer,” he said, with his security in tow.

You can watch the entire two-minute video on Facebook, and while there is nothing funny about self-promotion, the rider professing to be the Boogeyman who “wanna eat” makes it all quite… hilarious.  We know celebrities can’t always depend on a team to help sell their brand, so they take to social media or arrange their own PR stunts to promote their work.

Back in 2012, the late Joan Rivers promoted her book, “I Hate Everything … Starting With Me,” inside a Los Angeles-area Costco. Well actually, she staged a protest against the wholesale store, which she said banned her new book. Still, it was great FREE promotion.

The viral buzz generated from his mini-subway show may not result in Top 10 placement on the Billboard charts, but hey – it got us talking about it. Many had no idea Tyrese had an album dropping until he announced it on the subway last week.

“Black Rose” is available to purchase on iTunes.

Meanwhile, fans of Baby Boy are counting down to his debut on the Season 2 premiere of the hit FOX drama “Empire.”

Tyrese mentioned in an interview that he was actually in talks to appear in season one, but personal matters supposedly kept him from doing so.

“I was supposed to be on season one of ‘Empire,’ and I was in and out of court fighting for a personal matter with my 7-year-old, so I wasn’t able to do the show. That’s the truth,” he told Huff Post Live. “I don’t like this Derek Luke dude kissing all over my girl. I don’t like Terrence [Howard] kissing all over her. It bothers me, and we’re gonna have to figure this shit out.”

Season 2 of “Empire” premieres on FOX September 23.
