Kevin Craig West Stars in ‘Twilight The Story Tellers -The Groundskeeper’ + ‘I Hate Being Black’

*(Los Angeles) — Actor Kevin Craig West has a lot going on! Kevin plays the lead role as the groundkeeper in Lionsgate’s “The Storytellers – New Voices of The Twilight Saga: – The Groundskeeper” set to release July 13, 2015.

Lionsgate is reviving its powerful “Twilight” franchise by selecting seven female directors to make short films based on the series’ characters.

“The Storytellers — New Voices of The Twilight Saga” was motivated by the desire to provide new female voices with an opportunity to be heard. Lionsgate, Tongal, Facebook, Volvo Cars, and Women in Film, along with Twilight author Stephenie Meyer, are bringing you the chance to see seven incredible Short Films set in the Twilight universe. Each one explores the origin stories of characters from The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide and is set in the dynamic world of Twilight and will be shown exclusively on Facebook.

Earlier this year Twilight’s lead actress Kristen Stewart and author Stephenie Meyer presented the short films at the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards.

The two collaborated on a short film competition encouraging female filmmakers to submit Twilight-related work to be shown on Facebook later this year after being reviewed by a panel of celebrity judges including Stewart and Meyer, Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer, and Julie Bowen.

Next on deck for Kevin is the award winning, provocative short film, “I Hate Being Black” that he directed and is the lead actor, with co-producer and writer Christina Gordon via MoBetta Films. This will be released in October 2015 on Frank Badami Productions’African American Short Films national TV show.

I Hate Being Black is a conversation between two upwardly mobile Black professionals about the societal disadvantages to being Black. For more information check out the trailer and imdb page: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JY2bmzf5sss

Fandango, chief correspondent Dave Karger, comments about the film, “I’m up at the Toronto film festival and finally had a moment to watch the short. The writing and acting are excellent and I liked the improvisational feel and the fact that you let so many of the shots breathe as opposed to editing the crap out of it. I also think that the entire subject matter is presented in a way that audiences of any race can appreciate the arguments and the message. I thought it was very well done”.

Kevin states “Having worked in classrooms as a teaching artist for many years, I wanted to create visual content that could reach many at once.  Something that was thought provoking, and sparked dialogue among those that could relate, as well as those who were oblivious to the subject matter. Given the current social and racial climate spurred by the latest news of Black men and boys dying from Police encounters, I felt it necessary to give voice to a seldom heard perspective”.
