Amy Winehouse Documentary is Too Emotional For Questlove

questlove-amy winehouse*Viewing the upcoming Amy Winehouse documentary “Amy” proved to be an emotional experience for Questlove.

According to Page Six, The Roots member recently hosted a screening of the upcoming Asif Kapadia-directed film at the Crosby Street Hotel.

“This is probably the first time that I’ve really committed to seeing her image or listening to her music since she passed,” Questlove said during an introduction. “This is going to be kind of hard to watch in public.”

As moviegoers watched the documentary, the “Tonight Show” drummer ended up leaving the theater as the movie showed Winehouse strung out on drugs.

“It was too much to take. I would have preferred to watch in private,” he later told Page Six. But he returned for the rest of the movie.

Prior to dying of alcohol poisoning in 2011, the Grammy-winning songstress was planning to form a jazz group with Questlove, Mos Def and Raphael Saadiq. Featuring interviews with Winehouse’s family and friends while chronicling the singer’s life and death, “Amy” will also include previously unseen footage and unheard music from the famed vocalist.

“I really haven’t met a person so immersed in their art,” Questlove said. “I have this sort of know-it-all reputation for music, but she knew way, way more stuff than I did. Every conversation was always, ‘Let me top you’ . . . I’m just very honored and blessed to have known her.”

“Amy” is in select theaters worldwide.
