Eric Garner’s Widow: His Baby Daughter Will Never Be Accepted into Family

*The chance of Eric Garner’s daughter being accepted in to his family are slim to none, according to Garner’s widow.

In an interview with the New York Daily News, Esaw Garner mentioned that although 16-month-old Legacy is her husband’s daughter with another woman, she wants nothing to do with the young girl or her mother, Jewel Miller.

“As far as her being accepted into our family, that’ll never happen,” Esaw Garner said when asked about the baby.

The publication noted that prior to his fatal encounter with Officer Daniel Pantaleo in Staten Island last July, Garner had been living with Miller for three years. Last week, a DNA test recently confirmed that Legacy is Garner’s daughter, as Miller claimed.

As a result, Legacy stands to get the largest share of any payout the Garner family gets from the city regarding Eric Garner’s death. At this time, the family’s lawyer, Jonathan Moore, is preparing a wrongful death suit against the police officers involved in Garner’s death.

According to the Daily News, steps have already been taken to initiate a lawsuit against the city with a notice of claim filed last year that listed Legacy as a potential beneficiary, in addition to Garner’s four biological children with Esaw. The publication goes on to reference the filing, which said the family would seek up to $75 million for Garner’s death.

“They knew she was his daughter but they didn’t want the public to know so they could keep up the image of the happily married husband and wife together which was the farthest thing from the truth,” Miller told the Daily News. “I think it was a public relations thing.”

“And Esaw is just money hungry,” she added.

Responding to Miller, an angry Esaw Garner mostly remained tight-lipped, saying her lawyer advised her not to talk.

But not before stating , “I know the truth. My kids know the truth. We know that’s her baby and fine, that’s what she’s entitled to.”

Esaw Garner’s comments regarding Miller and Legacy are the latest developments following Eric Garner’s death in July, 2014. The 43-year-old died after Pantaleo placed him in a chokehold that was banned by the New York Police Department. Despite the city medical examiner’s office declaring Garner’s death a homicide, Pantaleo was not indicted by a Staten Island grand jury. Nevertheless, Garner’s death is still under investigation by the Justice Department.

  1. I guess his WIFE is trying to keep up appearances!

He has lived with this other woman… for THREE YEARS???

I wonder why the wife did not divorce him?

It is best that this baby & her mother have NOTHING to do with the child’s siblings for now.

At some point she will need to know her siblings!

Wife is bitter… should have divorced him.

I hope the child is properly provided for!

  2. The woman he lived with and that beautiful child are entitled to rhe money. His other children, depending on ages , may get a share of the money. But the way it will turn out his legal wife will get it and the women and young child will see nothing. His legal wife need to accept that child so she will be able to know her siblings. I hope and pray the right thing will be done here
