*Shanola Hampton is the first to tell you that her Showtime series “Shameless” is aptly titled, particularly when it comes to nudity and sex scenes.
The Charleston, South Carolina-born actress has had to bare her share of boob and buttock over five seasons, but insists it’s no more nudity than any other actress on the show has had to expose – particularly since African American actresses have too often been cast in roles that perpetuate the black female stereotype of “highly sexual.”
“I can tell you from my experience of being on ‘Shameless,’ we are equal opportunity,” Hampton told us at a TCA panel in January. “We do 80 year old men nude, 90 year old women nude, young white girl, young black, Latinas. We are just equal opportunity to show it all.”
Below, Hampton says her character’s sexual appetite has nothing to do with her race.
