Watch FSU QB De’Andre Johnson PUNCH Woman in Face; Gets Released

De’Andre Johnson

*There’s bad news for Florida State University QB De’Andre Johnson. In essence his football career at the school is over.

On the same day video of the freshman quarterback’s altercation with a female was released, Johnson was summarily let go from the football team, per a release from the school.

“Florida State head football coach Jimbo Fisher announced Monday evening that freshman De’Andre Johnson has been dismissed from the football team effective immediately. Johnson was indefinitely suspended on June 25 following initial reports of an incident that occurred off campus and resulted in a criminal charge.”

Johnson, 19, has been charged with misdemeanor battery and was released from the Leon County Jail on $500 bond. According to the Tallahassee Democrat, Florida state attorney Willie Meggs elected to charge Johnson after viewing the video footage.

 THE BACKSTORY:

According to Tallahassee Democrat, the incident took place on June 24 inside the Tallahassee, Fla. bar Yiannis. Court documents reveal the encounter between Johnson and the woman resulted after she felt Johnson push past her in an aggressive way while she was waiting in line for a drink.

Upon addressing Johnson at the bar, the woman raised her arm to defend herself. It was then that Johnson grabbed the woman’s arm and began pushing her. Court records show that the woman raised her knee to Johnson’s midsection to push him away. The woman attempted to punch Johnson before he ultimately punched the woman on the left side of her face.

Court records go on to mention that the woman suffered bruising near her left eye as well as swelling of the left cheek and upper lip, and a small cut near the bridge of her nose. Johnson ended up leaving the bar after the incident while the woman remained at the bar.

The Tallahassee Democrat noted that Johnson turned himself in to police at the Leon County Jail on June 30. The freshman football player, who was held at the jail on $500 bond, was eventually released after his bond was posted. State Attorney Willie Meggs admitted to the publication that his decision to charge Johnson with a misdemeanor for the incident came after seeing footage of the 19-year-old athlete’s altercation.

The incident with Johnson ultimately gave way to the statement above from FSU regarding him being released from the football team.
