From Nigeria to Indiana and Los Angeles, 27-year-old Okeniyi always knew he wanted to be an actor. Okeniyi always participated in theater and films and within a year of living in LA he landed his first major movie, playing the role of Thresh in “Hunger Games.”
If that’s not impressive enough, the young actor only did one read for the audition, which was taped. The tape was passed around to different producers on the movie before landing in the hands of “Hunger Games” director, Gary Ross.
He will also be gracing movie screens on July 1 in the action packed “Terminator Genisys” and explained that the audition process for this movie went the same way. A humble Okeniyi described it as “luck” but we think it can best be described as talent.
If starring alongside Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth wasn’t enough, he will be on the screens with another amazing all-star cast, that includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, J.K. Simmons, Emilia Clarke, & Jai Courtney.
“I still bug out,” he said. “There’s nothing about seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger that’s just a Wednesday.”
Okeniyi explained that he’s been a fan of Schwarzenegger since he was a kid.
“We all wanted to be him…I was obsessed,” he explained, saying his favorite Schwarzenegger movie was “Commando.”
The Nigerian star who plays the role of Danny Dyson encourages people to go out and see “Terminator Genisys” because he believes it’s a great summer movie and fans will be surprised by how much heart there is in the movie.
“Really it’s just a great movie,” he said. “If you’re a fan of the old movies you’re going to love it and if you’re coming to it with fresh eyes you’re going to love it.”
