*It’s Taraji P. Henson as we’ve never seen her before.
On the heels of her July Allure cover, the “Empire” star sexes it up on the August cover (as well as inside) of W magazine.
The actress sports a simple white henley shirt and jeans on the cover of the glossy’s annual Pop issue, photographed by famed duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott. Her smoky eye makeup and wet hair were styled by W style director Edward Enninful.
According to W’s editor-in-chief Stefano Tonchi, Henson’s “Empire” alter-ego has made her an undeniable fashionista: “As Cookie, Henson has become an indelible pop-fashion icon,” he states in the issue.
And Henson agrees. She tells W. that Cookie’s fashion sense and its connection with fans comes from the character living her truth:
“They see [Cookie’s] heart. They see her intentions. And they love her style — her style is 17 years behind the fashion curve, which makes the clothes a character on the show,” Henson told W. “As Cookie grows, you’ll see her fashion grow. And people love that — she’s a work in progress. The only thing that never changes is her spirit: To me, Cookie is living, breathing, walking truth.”
