*ABC is tripling down on John Ridley.

In a third collaboration with the ‘American Crime’ creator, the network has purchased “Presence,” a pilot script from the Oscar winning “12 Years a Slave” screenwriter, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Presence” is described as a stylish update of the classic detective genre. It centers on Presence Foster, a former Army counter insurgency operative who finds herself navigating a widely divergent and highly colorful cross section of Los Angeles as she unintentionally begins a career as an unlicensed private investigator.

Ridley wrote the script and will also direct, according to THR. He’ll exec produce through his International Famous Players Radio Picture Corporation, along with Michael McDonald (“American Crime”) via his Stearns Castle company. ABC Studios will produce the project.

“Presence” arrives at ABC following Ridley’s anthology drama “American Crime,” which has been renewed for a second season, and his previously announced Marvel Studios project at ABC.
