*All astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson wants to do is show off the wonderful world of science to everyday folks who either think they can’t stand science, or don’t realize that science exists in pretty much every aspect of our lives – including one night stands.

Tyson has been breaking science down for the past five years on his top-rated podcast “Star Talk,” and for the past two months on his televised version of “the program, airing Mondays at 11 p.m. on the National Geographic Channel.

“There are already science programs out there, at least in the radio world,” Tyson says. “There’s, for example, ‘Science Friday,’ a very successful NPR program that’s a journalist interviewing scientists every Friday. Who tunes into that? I think these are people who already know they like science.

“The goal of ‘Star Talk,’ when we started it five years ago, was to find the people who don’t know, believe, or understand that science is all around us. And by getting people from pop culture explaining how science plugs in to them, this, then, alerts people of how and why science matters in our lives.”

“Star Trek” alum George Takei, director Christopher Nolan and Arianna Huffington have been among his guests so far. Show topics range from popular science fiction, to space travel, to extraterrestrial life, to the Big Bang, to the future of Earth and the environment. The show is filmed at Tyson’s place of employment, New York’s American Museum of Natural History’s Hayden Planetarium, where he serves as director. A second season of the series was ordered back in April, before this first season even began airing.

Bottom line, Tyson wants to use his platform to convince non-believers that science is…actually not that scary.

“I would rather take those precious moments I have with you, the viewer, and enlighten you in some way that you didn’t know you could be enlightened, find a connection of science to your world, to pop culture.

Below, Tyson gives an example citing a podcast episode that featured three New York Giants players:
