Iggy Azalea: ‘Creative Change of Heart’ Reason for Tour Cancellation

*Since topping the charts in 2014 with hit after hit, and scoring multiple Grammy noms, Iggy Azalea continues to dominate the music world, most recently with her “Pretty Girls” single with Britney Spears.

Last month, she took home one too many Billboard Music Awards, causing a Twitter furor, and a change.org petition called for Billboard to retract her win for Top Rap Song. Now the singer is talking exclusively to Seventeen about the difficult decision to cancel “The Great Escape” tour.

“I’ve had a different creative change of heart,” Azalea told Seventeen magazine. “I want to start totally anew, and if I stayed on my tour, that would mean I wouldn’t even be able to start working on that until after Christmas. On top of that, mentally, to be honest with you, I just feel I deserve a break. I’ve been going non-stop for the past two years, nearly every single day.

“I need a break to figure out what I want my sound to progress to,” Azalea said, “and I need a break to figure out how I want my visuals to progress.”

Back in March, reports surfaced that there was a drift between Azalea and her “core team.” However, a rep said that “there’s no truth to the rumor that there’s any conflict between her and her management.”

Iggy handed over control of her social media accounts to management in March, after facing controversy and conflict with artists such Azealia Banks.

When she rescheduled the tour earlier this year, and after opening acts Nick Jonas and Tinashe dropped out, Iggy told Seventeen  that she wasn’t able to find new opening acts for the postponed dates, which led her to the conclusion that “when enough things come your way, you can’t ignore the signs.”

“The only reason why at this point I would stay and do this tour is to save face publicly, or to not endure publicly what people will say if I cancel it,” Azalea said of the Great Escape tour, “and that’s not a good enough reason to do something.”

Iggy made history by joining the Beatles as the only artist to have songs simultaneously at numbers one and two with their first two Hot 100 hits.
