#BlackLivesMatter Movement ID’s Minneapolis as Next Baltimore if Police there Don’t Change

*(Via Al Jazeera America) – Minneapolis may soon see “uprisings” like the ones that ripped through Ferguson and Baltimore if local authorities don’t overhaul the way communities of color are policed in the city, an activist and lawyer from the Black Lives Matter movement told Al Jazeera on Thursday.

The warning came hours after the ACLU released a new report showing that black Minneapolis residents are nearly nine times more likely than white people in the city to be arrested for low-level crimes such as small-scale theft and reckless driving.

“I hope things don’t rise to the level of uprisings in Ferguson and Baltimore. But we’re not far from that,” said Nekima Levy-Pounds, a law professor who advises the local Black Lives Matter movement and president of the Minneapolis NAACP.

  1. Don’t understand the “headline” of this story.
Are you/they saying that they are going to destroy/burn down the communities they live in?
    If that happens, then what?
No one seem to understand that it takes decades (If at all), for anyone to dedicate funds to re-build these communities, and frankly not a heck of a lot really care. This is the truth.
However, one would think that folks would think carefully and strategically, and not with so much “emotion” to hopefully make positive changes.
Please stop tearing/burning down where you live! That is dumb!!

  2. Or… they could wind up like the citizens of one Baltimore neighborhood, where the citizens are afraid to come out of their houses because police refuse to go into the neighborhood and the gangbangers, drug dealers and thugs have taken over the street. Moral of the story: Be careful what you ask for. You just may get it.
