*Anyone looking at purchasing Michael Jordan’s Highland Park, Ill. mansion-estate can put less money away as the price for the residence has been reduced.
The Los Angeles Times reports that basketball icon relisted the 56,000-square-foot compound for $14.855 million on Thursday (May 14). Helping Jordan unload the home will be Mauricio Umansky and Kofi Nartey of The Agency, who will handle the listing in collaboration with Chicago agent Katherine Malkin of Baird & Warner.
The discount is the latest development surrounding the 7.39-acre residence, which was offered for as much as $29 million in 2012 but didn’t garner an agreeable bid when it was put up for auction in 2013. The mansion was most recently priced at
$16 million.
While some may see the price decrease as a negative, Nartey sees the opposite, telling the Times while acknowledging how it ties in to Jordan’s basketball legacy.
“The price reflects a number that is more significant,” the agent said. “If you take a look at those numbers in the price and add them up, they equal 23.”
As noted by the Times, 23 was the number on Jordan’s jersey when he played with the Chicago Bulls as well as the number that “has since become synonymous with the player and his brand.” Jordan’s legendary career in basketball includes being a 14 time-all-star, six NBA titles, five most valuable player awards and 10 scoring titles. Nowadays, the athlete spends his days the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets.
Built in contemporary style in 1995 and renovated in 2009, Jordan’s home includes nine bedrooms and 15 bathrooms across three stories, in addition to large-scale formal areas, a movie theater and a lounge/retreat complete with a cigar room, a poker room and a wet bar.
The gated entrance to the compound, which served as the Jordan family home for two decades, is marked with the number 23 and boasts an indoor tennis court, a putting green and a pond as well as an indoor basketball court customized by Jordan himself that is outfitted with a regulation-sized court, motorized backboards and the former athlete’s “Jumpman” logo at center court.
Adding to the luxury of the mansion is an entertainer’s pavilion set beneath a row of skylights that sits between the main house and a guest wing, no to mention a climate-controlled garage with parking for up to 15 vehicles.
“This is one of the most significant homes in the world,” Nartey said. “When you think about the White House, celebrity properties like Madonna’s home, architectural properties — they are instantly recognizable. This property falls into that realm.”
Although Jordan is selling his Highland Park mansion, he still has a 28,000-square-foot estate in Jupiter, Fla.
