*ABC will try to convince us this summer that those imaginary BFFs claimed by some children may not be so harmless…especially when kids who are strangers to each other are all claiming the same invisible friend.

In this show, its name is “Drill.”

“When the mysterious games Drill convinces them to play turn dangerous, FBI child specialist Claire Bennigan (Lily Rabe) is called in to investigate,” reads a press release from ABC. “What is it that Drill wants, and why does he – or it – only communicate with children? As the clock counts down, a suspenseful race will begin to save not only their families, but the world. Before it’s too late.”

The series, set in Washington D.C., also stars Derek Webster as Jessup Rollins, Barry Sloane, Milo Ventimiglia, Kristen Connolly, Kylie Rogers and Kyle Harrison Breitkopf.

“We’re selling a show about what happens when someone or something is influencing your children and you don’t know what it is,” producer Zack Estrin told us in January. “And I think part of the adventure is the unraveling of that. And we do get to it sort of later in the show, but I think that it’s more interesting to wonder for a little while before we answer those questions.”

Below, Estrin swears that “The Whispers” won’t be a show where each week, a different kid befriended by Drill turns evil:

“The Whispers” premieres Monday, June 1 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
