*In the tradition of Ryan Murphy‘s “American Horror Story,” John Ridley’s ABC anthology drama “American Crime” will feature some of the same actors from its first season in different roles when the show comes back for Season 2.

ABC president Paul Lee made the announcement to reporters during a conference call ahead of the network’s upfront presentation to advertisers Tuesday.

“It’s a completely different scenario. Different crime,” Lee said. “Some of the iconic actors from Season 1 are going to come back and play different roles in the second season. John [Ridley] has mapped out specific roles for them.”

The first installment of the show followed the home invasion murder of Matt Skokie — a war vet — and an assault on his wife, Gwen, and the subsequent trial and events surrounding four suspects and their families. As the series unravels, everyone’s part in the crime, including the victims and beliefs around race, faith gender and class came to the surface.

The cast featured Regina King, Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton, W. Earl Brown, Richard Cabral and Penelope Ann Miller.

The ABC Studios drama is written, directed and produced by Oscar-winning screenwriter Ridley (“12 Years A Slave”) and executive produced by Ridley and Michael J. McDonald.
