Macy, a transgender black woman is featured in “New Girls on the Block” on Discovery Life Channel

One of the participants in the series, Macy, is a middle-aged black woman who was married to her spouse, Sharon, for five years before she revealed that she was a woman and was going to transition from male to female. While Macy’s wife has continued to be supportive and stay by her side, unfortunately Macy’s employer was not as accepting. Macy was let go of her job that she held for over 20 years when she let them know she was transitioning at work, and while transgender people experience unemployment at twice the rate of the national average, trans people of color suffer unemployment at around four times the national average.*

“New Girls on the Block” follows a group of highly inspirational and entertaining women from Kansas City, MO – all friends, some couples – who just happen to be transgender. After years struggling with their gender identities, they are finally finding themselves and learning what it means to be the women they always knew that they were. Confronting issues with their relationships, their femininity, their families and friendships, New Girls on the Block” is an authentic look at lives in transition. As the first series to embed with a real group of female friends within the transgender community, New Girls on the Block offers a transformative look at these women’s lives as they navigate their daily struggles and successes. The five-part series airs on Discovery Life Channel on Saturdays at 10/9c.

Macy & Sharon

Macy, 50, and Sharon, 56, share a unique and inseparable bond. After five years of marriage, Macy decided to reveal to Sharon who she really is and decided to transition. Although Sharon can have a difficult time coping with Macy’s transition, she remains loyal and continues to support her spouse.

Sharon has helped Macy blossom into the beautiful woman that she is today even though it requires tremendous courage on her part at times, including helping Macy to dress shop at the same location Sharon bought her wedding gown.

Ever since she was a teenager Macy knew that she was a woman, but tried her best to keep the masculine persona expected of her up and push her feelings of her true self down. Macy compares this feeling to trying to keep an inflated beach ball under water – at some point, it’s going to come rushing to the surface.

Macy was unfortunately forced to leave her position that she held for over 20 years with a major employer in the Kansas City area when she decided to transition. Macy now finds herself part of a staggering statistic: while trans people experience unemployment at twice the rate of the national average, trans people of color suffer unemployment at around four times the national average.*

  1. rj, How did I know it would be you judging again? When Jesus comes back you will be the one judged, and it won’t be nice. It’s amazing how people like you are in the Jesus crowd, and are always judging people and thinking that Jesus will approve of your hateful, judgmental rhetoric. I think you are in cahoots with the wrong Jesus!

    • nope, wrong again, as usual … talk to God about what He said about homosexuality; I take it you’re afraid of reading the Bible, it’s in there, several times – He’s going to judge us all, and abomination is something I don’t have to worry about … and you might have sense enough to know I am not judging, I am speaking the truth – I think it’s funny when someone speaks against homosexuality, you see absurd comments like bigotry, hatred, judging, and the most ridiculous one, homophobia … don’t be silly … look at what God says about homosexuality- don’t like what He said about it, take that up with Him …

  2. This is sickening! A total abomination and this is not pleasing to God Himself. He said to flee from this lifestyle. And, when Jesus does return yes we all will be judged but some more because of what they continue to do. This is not right at all, just be who you are and were created to be!

    • yes, it is very sickening; sick of hearing and reading about it, and I will continue to speak out against it …

  3. What’s sickening is your lack of being able to be educated. Interesting…. All this talk about being a Christian…. You’re very words will have you burning in hell. You must feel good about yourself because ignorance is bliss….

    • try as you might, you cannot defend homosexuality … no one can … God said homosexuality is an abomination against Him …

  4. I’m so sick of these husky men wanting to be women that I’m ready for this world to end. It’s sad that when I meet a woman now I have to worry about whether she was born a man or not but had a sex change. Sickening and disgusting. They should go on their own little island and butt finger each other all day and leave straight people alone.

    • I agree, it is disgusting – it is time for those of us who are sick of this homosexuality garbage to speak out more against it, protest their protests, boycott all media in support of it …

  5. Yes it is very sickening to see , and the ones that is defending it is sick to . so don’t go back and fourth with them , the bible tells us be not deceive , the devil is going to defend his people.
