Time Magazine Honors Walter Scott with ‘Black Lives Matter’ Cover

time mag cover black lives matter

*In big bold letters, Time magazine featured the words “Black Lives Matter” to mark the shooting of African American man Walter Scott by white Charleston, South Carolina police officer Michael Slager.

The cover also features screenshots of the cell phone footage that captured Slager shooting Scott as he flees.

Slager, who had stopped Scott over a broken tail light, said he opened fire after a scuffle over his taser. Video footage later showed he fired eight shots at Scott as he fled. Slager has been charged with murder for the killing.

The cover comes on the heels of several similar incidents in which police have killed unarmed African-American men, including Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri and Eric Garner in New York City.

  1. This is a bold and timely stance and statement by Time Magazine, and long overdue. Having grown up in the turbulent times of the civil rights era, this gives me encouragement that Dr. King’s dream can be fulfilled. We as a nation need to realize, for so many reasons, that we are all in this together. There is no place or room for hatred and bigotry, and we are “our brother’s keeper.”

  2. Having read the four editorials published by Time on this event, I would only agree with the one by the police commissioner. Crump, Morris, and Jubbar are all sorry excuses for humans that delight and even profit from playing the race card. These scumbags need to get a life. Did the cop actually murder the suspect? Sure looks that way to me, but why do these racial instigators (who are just as racist as those they decry) have to make a point of him being a black man? Is not that he is a man good enough? Anything to keep the racial fires going, ay boys? Commissioner Sarif is correct, The vast majority of cops do their job well and this should be no reflection on them. I salute Darrin Wilson for making sure his kids had a daddy to come home to that night. I salute George Zimmerman for protecting himself. Too bad it wasn’t Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson. Wait, they always get there afterwards LOL. Sorry losers.
