*With Kendrick Lamar’s “To Pimp a Butterfly” sitting atop the Billboard 200 for a second week, the Compton rapper recently revealed that he’s engaged to Whitney Alford, the girl he’s been dating since high school, reports Billboard.

When K.Dot stopped by NYC’s Breakfast Club radio show this morning (April 3), the hosts asked if the rumors about his engagement were true.

“Yeah definitely,” he said. “I’m loyal to the soil. At the end of the day you want to always have real people around you, period — whether male or female.”

In January, Lamar told Billboard that “girlfriend” wasn’t a strong enough word for what Alford meant to him.

“I wouldn’t even call her my girl,” he said. “That’s my best friend. I don’t even like the term that society has put in the world as far as being a companion — she’s somebody I can tell my fears to.”

  3. As a dark skin Black woman, I am not offended by this young man choosing to marry his high school sweetheart. He apparently feels that she is the one and I wish them all in the happiness in the world. I am the mother of two sons and one is light and the other is dark and I love them both equally. This light skin versus dark skin controversy needs to be laid to rest. Black is beautiful in whatever hue! Enough already!!!

  4. Best of luck to Kendrick and his beautiful wife. We have to understand that black comes in all shades. I’m happy he’s marrying a black woman. He’s a very talented man!
