Angela Bassett Set for BBC2 Series ‘Close to the Enemy’

*Angela Bassett joins Jim Sturgess, Freddie Highmore and Charlotte Riley in Stephen Poliakoff’s television miniseries “Close to the Enemy,” the BBC announced.

The six-part drama for BBC2, will follow the attempts of an army intelligence officer (Sturgess), to persuade a captured German scientist (August Diehl) to share his nation’s secrets about the development of the jet engine.

No word yet on Bassett’s role.

Set against the background of the emerging Cold War, it will be Poliakoff’s first BBC drama since his acclaimed “Dancing on the Edge,” starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, about a black jazz band in 1930s London. It originated on BBC2 two years ago and aired in the States on cable channel Starz.
