First Look: Trailer for Antoine Fuqua’s ‘Southpaw’

*The Weinstein Company has released the first trailer for director Antoine Fuqua’s latest film “Southpaw,” four months ahead of its July 31 release in the U.S.

Set in the boxing world, Jake Gyllenhaal – who added 15 pounds for the role – stars as a boxer who loses custody of his daughter. The left-handed champ’s life is sent into a downward spiral by an accident until he receives help from a washed-up former boxer, played by Forest Whitaker

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Rachel McAdams, Rita Ora, Naomie Harris and Victor Ortiz also star.

“Sons of Anarchy” creator Kurt Sutter and “The Equalizer” writer Richard Wenk penned the script. ..

The project had been in development at DreamWorks starring Eminem before winding up at TWC.
