*“Empire” is still making news, nearly a week after airing the final episode of its freshman season.

Per Deadline.com, we learn today that in Live + 3 ratings, the Fox drama’s March 18 finale drew 21.1 million viewers (8.4/27) making it the highest-rated freshman finale since the first season finale of “Grey’s Anatomy” on May 22, 2005, which drew a 9.8/24, according to Nielsen.

It is also the best any regular scheduled drama has done on the Big 4 networks (NBC, FOX, ABC and CBS) since the 7.2/17 that “CSI” pulled on October 9, 2008. The finale took Fox to the height of the best night any of the nets have done with regularly scheduled programming since the “American Idol” premiere on January 18, 2012.

And there’s also what “Empire” did to Twitter.

Per The Wrap, the two-hour show racked up a staggering 112 million impressions on Twitter Wednesday night, according to Nielsen data. The spike came from roughly 2.4 million tweets, sent from 497 thousand unique authors. The overall impressions figure includes the number of times any tweets ascribed to a TV episode were seen.

Including a broader group of keywords and hashtags beyond the official #EmpireFox hashtag, Twitter statistics on interactive mapping tool Reverb show an average of 16 thousand tweets per minute during Wednesday’s finale, double the frequency of the previous episode.

The social site blew up at certain key moments during the explosive “Empire” finale, as Twitter’s minute-by-minute breakdown (above) shows.

Over on Facebook, 4.2 million people generated 15.8 million likes, comments and shares about the primetime soap.
