*In April, NBC will pick up the baton from History Channel’s epic 10-part miniseries “The Bible.”
Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey explore the aftermath of events following the Crucifixion in “A.D. The Bible Continues,” a 12-week miniseries premiering Easter Sunday.
The cast is racially diverse, with black actors playing the apostle John (Babou Ceesay),
…his brother and fellow apostle James (Denver Isaac),
…Mary Magdalene (Chipo Chung),
…and Philip the missionary (Joe Dixon).
“Let’s face it. This is a story that millions have died for and billions live for. And we feel the story should be reflective of the world, how the world looks and how America looks,” Burnett said of the diverse cast at the TCA tour in January.
“In the end it comes down to the best actors for the roles,” he continued. “But we are, obviously, thrilled, especially with the current comments in our industry today of the lack of diversity in roles and nominations, that we happen to have a very, very diverse cast that are reflective of the world. We even have an Irish guy.”
