*Civil rights activist Najee Ali, political director of the National Action Network, is calling upon the California State Bar to launch an investigation into the financial settlement agreement that was signed by Marlene Pinnock and her attorney Caree Harper.
Pinnock is the mentally ill homeless woman who was beaten on the freeway last year by a California Highway Patrol officer.
Attorney Harper negotiated a $1.5 million settlement and received over $600,000.
Judge Otis Wright who presided over the civil rights lawsuit said Harpers fee, given how fast the case was settled and the small amount of necessary court work was unconscionable.
“We want the California State Bar to investigate Harper and bring her to justice,” stated Najee Ali.
