*Dame Dash stopped by “Sway in the Morning,” and he opened up about drama and relationships with many celebrities: Jay Z, Kanye West, Jim Jones and Lee Daniels.
Dash dished on suing Daniels, West leaving Roc-A-Fella with Jay Z, his beef with Jones and reconnecting with Jay. From AllHipHop, parts of the interview can be read below.
On Suing Lee Daniels:
Itâs about being paid. I put up $2 million. He asked me to do The Woodsman, and I put the money upâĤ Me being perceived as this âurbanâ dude and [with movie executive] Harvey Weinstein pissing me off â I was like, âI want some of that money tooââĤ
On West leaving Roc-A-Fella with Jay:
At the time, I had dropped Kanye to be honest. It was because of not agreeing with the way he was moving. Thatâs water under the bridge.
Then I gave him the opportunity like, âAs a man, I signed you, so Iâm gonna give you the opportunity. Iâm not gonna walk away while youâre signed to Roc-A-Fella. If you want me to keep running your s**t I will.â I had already argued with him. I had already got at him like the old Dame Dash. We had already established we werenât movingâĤ
On issues with Jim Jones:
Jim is a creative that sometimes reacts in the moment. Thatâs what makes him creative. Iâm not the kind of guy that looks at one thing that a person does and only concentrates on what that is as opposed to everything.
So I have to look at all the things that Iâve done with Jim and the things heâs done, and it outweighs those two emotional moments. But those emotional moments donât reflect the way that I live and the way I react to things. That can be detrimental to the big picture. Heâs the kind of brother that Iâll always loveâĤ
On reconnecting with Jay:
Those moments â there were two. One was [Chaka Pilgrimâs] birthday. They were real adamant about me coming to her birthday, because I love Chaka like a little sister. I donât have a beef with Jay. I never did. We just approach business different.
The other time was with my daughter. Weâre gentleman. Weâre men. Weâve done a lot. Just because you donât agree with a man, because youâre Black doesnât mean you gotta fight or argue. You just have a different perspective.
