Whoopi Goldberg Defends ‘SNL’s’ Controversial ISIS Spoof (Watch)

whoopi goldberg defends isis SNL sketch

*Whoopi Goldberg doesn’t think so. She and Rosie Perez of “The View” defended the NBC show amid criticism of its spoof on Toyota Camry’s “My Bold Dad” ad, which was re-worked from its original depiction of the daughter going off with the U.S. military to show her going off to fight with ISIS militants.

On Monday, Whoopi and her fellow co-hosts discussed the ISIS sketch on “The View,” debating whether or not it was offensive.

“I’ve always felt that the best way to get back at boneheads, like ISIS, is to make them the joke,” Goldberg said as the audience applauded.

Perez also noted that historically, satire has been used in similar contexts. “The great Charlie Chaplin did it first,” she stated, “when he did the movie The Great Dictator where he made fun of Hitler. And, there was an uproar about that.”
