Terrence Howard’s Pissed ‘Cause He Can’t Say N***er on ‘Empire’

terrence_howard*There’s no question that “Empire” makes Wednesday nights must-see TV with it pushing the envelope to the extreme every week.

So what would happen if there was no envelope to push and they could get away with doing and saying anything? If it was up to Terrence Howard, that would be exactly what viewers got.

And then some since he would want his character Lucious Lyon to use the n-word on the show. From his interview with Entertainment Weekly, it’s safe to say that Howard is truly not a fan of holding back on what makes the show a center of conversation following each episode.

“If we start getting silly, if we start playing to people’s fancies, then we don’t deserve to be where we are,” he said regarding the success of “Empire.” “It’s a big pressure because I want to be a truth-sayer. I want to raise the bar. I want to get rid of this f***ed up word called PC. I think it’s a gate for bigotry because as long as you’re politically correct you can say anything you want but feel some way different.”

“I’m mad that we don’t say n***er in the show,” Howard continued. “Why is TV showing something different from the reality of the world? Why is there a thing called censorship that stops people from hearing everyday talk? We use n***er every day. It’s become part of a conversation — why aren’t we using it in the show?”

So what say you? What do you think “Empire” would be like if Lucious, Cookie and the rest of the show’s characters brought the n-word into the dialogue?

Would it be a good thing or a bad thing? Sound off below:

  1. It’s ignorant. White people can’t say it and neither should you. Having it both ways is beyond stupid. I appreciate that I don’t have to hear it on the show. The show is great the way it is.

  2. a real black person knows thats how we talk to eachother but cant no other race can call us that.real talk nigga a a black street slang for certain hoods.
    .

  3. Is Terrance for real? Too many ppl have lost their lives over that word! I hate it being used by anyone! He is being real stupid to want to use the word, let alone get mad cuz he can’t! He needs to shut up!!!!!!!

  4. This has to be the most ignorant thing i’ve heard in a very long time. it is simply beyond belief
and no it should never be allowed by anyone period. frankly speaking if you can’t express your self
without using the N word you have much deeper issues that you need to get in touch with. seriously. There is difference in pushing the envelope and promoting negative meaningless, senseless sterotypes which you are doing at the moment that simply does not add value in any sense.
While ethics and morality in america is akin to searching for a dime in the rain forest. It is without doubt a futile endeavor. on the other hand “DIGNITY” should be a minimum requirement for any
sane civilized human being. The first amendment as flawed as it is and it is indeed flawed does not give you the right and nor should it to violate human dignity.
If you believe in the idea that every living being has an inmate right to be valued and receive ethical and equal treatment. parity. then why on earth for any reason would you ask and actively
pursue the right to minimize and marginalize yourself? This is insanity at it’s worse form. The simplistic argument that people say one thing and feel another is true. that’s called knowing how to get alone in polite society. In truth, there should not be a question about what FOX and white america as a whole feel about you in their hearts. their words, deeds and actions cannot be mistaken. the answer is “CONTEMPT” so don’t sleep ignorance is the enemy

  5. I watched the recent Book of Negroes TV series and saw Africans carrying other Africans to the slave market to be sold to the White slave traders. It was an act of “ethnic self dehumanization” and in spite of what Terrence Howard (love his acting) says, or what might be said in the streets, the constant use of the Nword by African Americans to other African Americans is continuation of that same tradition among our people of “ethnic self dehumanization.” What is it about Black folks that causes us to not desire to rise above this historical slave mentality and see and deal with each other as the kings and queens that we were created to be. Terrence, quit it, you are too talented, too smart, and too successful to stoop down to use gutter language on your obviously so successful show. We expect more from a star such as yourself. Thank you.

  6. I hear kids saying all the time when I am at work. I am ashamed for them and don’t serve them. No thank you!!!!!

  7. So Mr. Howard, you think it’s fine to use the Nword. So I guess you also think it’s OK if your White daughter-in-law (on the show) calls your son the Nword. Hey, here’s a thought, just change everyone’s name to Nword. That will certainly make things easier for you. It’s NOT all about You Mr. Terrence Howard.
