‘Focus’ Expected to Smack ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Out of Top Spot

*Will Smith’s con-movie “Focus” opened in the U.S. Thursday pulling $900,000, but estimates have it on track to earn in the $22 million range by Monday, easily sending “Fifty Shades of Grey” from the top spot back to its playroom.

With largely positive reviews, the romantic caper is the first output from Will Smith since the “After Earth” calamity, which he has already called his “most painful failure.” It opened in summer 2013 to just $27.5 million.

“Focus,” from  Warner Bros., expands to 3,323 locations this weekend. Margot Robbie co-stars as a young con artist schooled in the game by Smith’s veteran grifter character.
