*Los Angeles Urban Policy Roundtable President Earl Ofari Hutchinson and other civil rights leaders on Sunday, February 22, praised Oscar ceremony host Neil Patrick Harris for chiding the internationally televised event as the “whitest” ceremony.

Patrick simply repeated the line that Hutchinson and other Los Angeles civil rights leaders have used in the days leading up to the Oscar ceremony to criticize the Motion Picture Academy for ignoring minorities and women and staging the whitest Oscars in nearly twenty years.

“Patrick got it right in his dig at the Academy for the paucity of minorities and women in the industry and for staging the whitest academy awards ceremony in 2015 in nearly two decades,” says Hutchinson, “Our protest and Patrick’s dig is a clear warning that civil rights groups will continue to challenge the film industry to end its abominable racial and gender exclusion.”

  1. 87 years of Oscars no blacks. One black Best Actress, 12 total winners. The Academy is mostly Gay and Jewish, so why the racism?

  2. Politics. Nothing but a lot of old white men and a few chosen white people who are invited to vote so, of course, they do not want to acknowledge us, which they have been doing for years. The last time I saw where two black actors got it were Halle Berry and Denzel Washington. You can count on one hand the other times a black person received an Oscar.

  3. Yet and still there are many black actors and actress that will break their necks to be at the Oscars but, they don’t show up for the Image, Trumpet, Bet Honors and many other award shows presented by other black organizations and the same thing for the Grammys.
