jussie smollettAccording to E! Online, Smollett’s role as Jamal, the middle son, inspired real-life gay kids, their struggles with coming out and acceptance.

“A kid wrote me a letter after the second episode,” Smollett said. “He said that Jamal gave him the courage to come out to his parents.”

He added, “it touched me so deeply because it was only the second episode. So it must mean something to people. It’s just an honor to bring that to life.”

  1. wondering if somebody somewhere is wanting our youth to focus more on homosexuality, even before they reach sexual maturity … or if this is an attempt at population control, as homosexual pairing cannot reproduce … still can’t find a good enough reason for homosexuality and cross-dressing to be taught to kindergarten classes …

  2. the show does Not focus soley on Homosexuality. Please remove your head from out of the sand and try to Pay closer attention. The show focus on Life behind the scenes. I have watched every show so far and it only has the gay theme about a few seconds. Its about drugs, power, infidelity, sexual situations. If you dont like what the show offers simply change the channel. Homosexuality is REAL and is not going anywhere. Wake up.

  3. Much ado about nothing. You’re paid to entertain. Just do your job and stop talking. Gay, straight or indifferent, doesn’t matter as long as people continue to tune in. So. Shut. Up.

  4. Can we just focus on the fact that he says the word ‘doe’ instead of ‘though’. Thank God he’s not gay, because he’s worse. He’s stupid.

    • Sometime we are so quick to judge people. That young man had to articulate well in order to get the role. You must not have children, brothers, sisters, nephews etc, because some of the smartest young people I know says doe, instead of though, but believe me they no better, and use the correct word when they need to be. Relax a bit

    • lol – he’s probably like a lot of our youth of today; don’t want to use proper English for fear of being accused of ‘acting white’ – and I don’t watch much TV, too much smut on it like that show and so many others … still a free country, dowhatchalike …

  5. Doe vs. Though. He is not stupid at all. Like someone said, he is part of today’s youth. Have you seen the way they write in text and social media. It is what it is. Fox 5 DC (local news) had an Empire episode last week (thank you for the snow because work was closed and it allowed me to watch it). He is articulate and answered questions just fine when he needed too. He also let loose and spoke like his character (because that is also him). And what else.

  6. Bryshere Gray has a right to state that he is not gay just as a gay person could clarify without being ridiculed. This way there is no misunderstanding if someone approaches him outside the movie and has the wrong impression.

  7. I CREAT HAKEEM TO BE A SPOILED, YOUNG KID- LIKE THE KID THAT ARE OUT THERE WHO ARE NOT RESPECTING THEIR PARENTS, NOT GREATFUL FOR THE THINGS THEY HAVE…

    • So? Just about very has black people, too. We cannot, in good conscience, try to shut the door behind us, once we’re able to get through it. That’s pure hypocrisy. Besides, the people who complain about “the gay stuff” usually do it because of their ambivalent feelings about their own (closeted)LGBT identity. That’s their cross to bear, I guess, but, eventually, the more they spew, the more likely it is that you, er, they will be “outed”.
      Tick-tock…

  8. The man is not gay. Some people are trying to de-fame his character, that’s what happens when a young afro American male becomes successful.

  9. Who cares? As long as the brother can act and play the part Hakeem convincingly – I could care less what he does in his private life as it has no bearing on me. People – it’s a show – watch it or don’t. So many other things on this planet to be worried about such as the new election – drones – having money for retirement – police brutality and the list goes on and on…dam, get a life and quit worrying about others!

  10. COME ON EUR YOU’VE BEEN POSTING THIS STORY SINCE FEBRUARY, STOP ALREADY WITH THE RE-USE OF OLD STORIES THAT NO ONE CARES ABOUT.

  11. This show is a live show of Lee Daniels life. All of His hates, fears and pain. All I see is a man who has been hurt, rejected and now its pay back. I pray for Him. Its a show about his views on God, church family and his sexuality. His belief that he is God. Who is a loins cub (Judah) Who is God (Ahayah)

    • Save your self-serving “prayers”, your judgement and your high-handed nonsense for your life, where it’s undoubtedly needed, so much more.:)
