North Carolina Mother of Four Claims to be $188M Powerball Winner!

*Whoooweee! How’d you like to be Marie Holmes right about now?

The 26-year-old mother of four from Shallotte, North Carolina has come forward with what she believes is the winning Powerball ticket for Wednesday’s lottery drawing

Holmes confirms the numbers and date on her ticket match those that were drawn for the $188 million payout.

“I thought I was going to have a heart attack when I saw the ticket and checked it,” a happy Holmes told WECT TV. She said she kinda freaked out her kids because she was screaming so much. “They said I scared them.” Holmes joked.

Holmes said she was forced to quit her jobs at Walmart and McDonald’s to care for her children, one of whom has cerebral palsy. She said the first thing she’s going to do with the money is tithe because, as she puts it, “I wouldn’t have none of it if it wasn’t for God.”

Holmes also plans to set up college funds for her children and buy a new house after deciding where to move. When asked if she’s ready for the impact the lottery win will have on her life, Holmes offered, “I’m ready for it. I’m ready to embrace the change. I’m very grateful for what’s about to happen for my family.”

Holmes will confer with lawyers and speak to a financial advisor in Raleigh before turning in the ticket to North Carolina lottery officials.

According to the N.C. Education Lottery’s twitter page, the ticket is worth $188 million annuity paid over 30 years, or a $127 million lump sum payment before federal and state taxes are withheld. The store is eligible to receive $50,000 retailer incentive award for selling the winning jackpot ticket, according to the NC Education Lottery.

Hmm, seems there’s something in the water in North Carolina because this is the fourth time someone from that state has become a Powerball jackpot winner.

The jackpot for Wednesday’s drawing had climbed to an estimated $500 million. The winning numbers were 11, 13, 25, 39 and 54, with the Powerball number being 19.

  1. I’m soo happy for her as well… But not happy to know that some greedy ass pastor is about to get ahold of $1.8 Million… If I was to see her here in Raleigh, I would ask that she starts her own charity and tithe that way.

  2. CONGRATS MARIE HOLMES! NOW PACK YOUR BAGS AND GO RUN AND HIDE CAUSE HERE COMES ALL THE RIFF RAFF THAT COMES WITH WINNING SUCH A LARGE AMOUNT OF CASH!

  3. I agree, with what everyone is saying too. And please don’t leave out the gigolo ex boy friends, and greedy state workers, that probably treated her like baggage because she needed help. Leaving and packing up, to unknown residents is the best thing to do. And as far as tithing, I truly would spread that tithe out to Charties of my choice. I would donate some to the church I attend, but not all of that. I’m not trying to corrupt no pastor or congregation. God knows she needed this, and you can see she has a good heart. Thank God, she has great guidance over these blessings. God protect her and keep her and her family safe, from all harm. I’m truly happy for her.

  4. The church wouldn’t get a damn thing outta me,
being they preach that you shouldnt gamble but contradicts itself by accepting your winnings. HELL NO! I refuse to be made a mockery of & participate in such foolishness.
Im for the kids, sick & shut in, senior citizens, & the homeless who would be blessed accordingly from my blessing.
    The “CHURCH” can kick rocks.

    • Thank you brother J.Johnson, for the wake up call. You are truly right on that. This is truly double standard, they preach God, is not mocked by I’ll gotten money. Such as gambling or whatever if it is not earned honestly or by working from your sweat and brow. Your suggestion is truly on point. And I do give to those less fortunate than myself every chance I can afford to. Excellent point. God Bless you, in everything you do.
