*The president of the Recording Academy thought Kanye West was joking when he went on stage as if here were about to have an “I’mma let you finish” moment with Beck.
Neil Portnow, who presides over the Recording Academy, said he thought it was a “fun moment” when the rapper jumped on stage ready to hijack Beck’s Album of the Year acceptance speech.
He told USA Today: ”That’s what’s great about live television. Live is live. It’s unpredictable. You don’t know what’s going to happen. You want to be there.
”Whatever happens is part of the culture of the people in the room. They do all kinds of things that they want to do, comfortable doing. That turned out to be a fun moment, at the end of the day.”
As previously reported, West had his rant moment backstage, calling the voting system for the ceremony “flawed.”
“I’m not gonna complain on stage about it. I’m gonna work on it from the inside,” he said.
West famously crashed Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 VMAs…but they were all smiles Sunday night…
