Chris Paul Fined $25,000 for Criticizing (Female) NBA Official

chris paul*LA Clippers guard Chris Paul was fined $25,000 for blasting a female official after losing 105-94 to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The NBA fined Paul on Saturday. This comes after he was given a technical by newbie referee Lauren Holtkamp on Thursday night.

In the third quarter, he received a technical on an inbounds play as the team received five total. Paul wasn’t happy about it and called out the rookie.

He called the technical “ridiculous” and even said “this might not be for her” referring to refereeing. She’s one of two female officials in the NBA.

“Some of [the technical fouls] were ridiculous,” Paul said. “The tech that I get right there was ridiculous. I don’t care what nobody says, I don’t care what she says; that’s terrible.”

He added, “there’s no way that can be a tech. We try to get the ball out fast every time down the court, and when we did that, she said, ‘Uh-uh.’ I said, ‘Why, uh-uh?’ And she gave me a tech. That’s ridiculous. If that’s the case, this might not be for her.”

He said he was only upset about the call, according to ESPN. Although, some critics thought his comments and actions had something to do with her being a woman in the NBA, Paul says they weren’t.

“Last night was about a bad call. That’s all.”
