*Benzino was arrested at the Atlanta airport Tuesday after a loaded handgun was found in his carry-on bag.
The former “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” star, born Raymond Scott, told The Associated Press on Wednesday it was an “unfortunate and honest mistake.” He says he forgot to remove the gun from his bag.
Benzino says the gun is registered to him. However, he was arrested under Georgia law because he did not have a license to carry it.
He was charged with carrying a gun in an unauthorized location and released an hour later on $3,000 bond.
Benzino, the CEO of Hip-Hop Weekly magazine, is a former co-owner of The Source magazine. Last year, he was shot by his nephew while driving in a funeral procession for his mother in Massachusetts.
